The Quality/Production Engineer is responsible for maintaining and supporting the operations of the Houston Repair Center Processes and Quality.  This will include parts and materials quality, document control, writing procedures and maintaining the calibration and performance of the test equipment and processes.   In addition the Quality/Production Engineer is responsible for the following:

  1. Diagnosis, Root-cause-analysis of Directional Module Failure (MWD/LWD):

Responsible for issuing Failure Analysis Report through failure-analysis, diagnosing and root-cause-analysis of directional module failures for repairing and troubleshooting returned tools and recording failure trends.

  1. Production Quality:

Responsible for analyzing test results and determining the next course of action when a product is not in specification during the Screening and Calibration Process.

  1. Enhance quality tracking:

Responsible for leading the improvement of quality tracking/Document control by introducing some automated tracking/display system for the control of the process progress status, pass fail, traceability, etc.

  1. Repair Technician Workmanship review:

To ensure the quality of the repairs he must have a good understanding of IPC-A610, IPC/WHMA-A-620 and J-STD-001) Standards and soldering basics for Through-hole and SMT.

  1. Electronics Assembly Process Control:

Responsible for the control of the repair process and calibration:

  • ESD control
  • 5S Procedure
  • Moisture Sensitive Materials,
  • HMP and PB86 Solders.
  • Epoxy Materials and encapsulates
  • Maintaining Equipment Calibration


  • Diagnose and repair of digital and analog directional module including digital assembly boards, accelerometers, fluxgate, magnetometer control boards, power control boards, processors with SMT and MCM level and other electronic parts down to component level.
  • Perform testing per specific test procedures by using measuring instruments and computer test programs.
  • Knowledgeable in electronic measuring instruments, assorted related tools and computer test programs, Programmable auto-testers, oscilloscopes, pulse generators, meters, power supplies and special test fixtures.
  • Require a high level of background in soldering and reworking including wiring and SMT components.
  • Alerts department manager of failure trends.
  • Attending meetings at customer site.
  • Recording, analyzing and interpreting test data.
  • Preparing process documentation, writing reports and giving presentations.
  • The Quality Engineer will be responsible for assisting the Plant Manager in supervising the Repair Center staff as needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Plant Manager.


  • Diagnose and repair of digital and analog directional module capability.
  • Skillful high temperature soldering experience in electrical assembly with HMP solder.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft applications.


Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronic and / or Electrical Engineering.

Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of related operational experience. Minimum 3 years of experience in a high volume Electronic Manufacturing.

Skills: Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

BUSINESS TRAVEL: This position requires occasional traveling up to 10% of the time.

PHYSICAL DEMAND: This position requires lifting up to 20 pounds frequently.
